The The Stephen T. Marchello Scholarship Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation that gives scholarships to current year High School Graduates in the states of AZ, CA, CO, and MT who have survived childhood cancer. 2006 Scholarship Recipients
CO - Ezekiel Wetlesen - $1,000, Pikes Peak Community College. Graduated from Evangelical Christian Academy in Colorado Springs. Plans to obtain a degree in math and education and become a high school teacher. Was elected Homecoming King his Senior year. Played four years of high school basketball, yearbook photographer his junior and senior years. and was Junior class Vice President. He had glioblastoma multiform, a type of brain tumor. His treatment and the tumor gave him a small loss of his visual field. He is still taking an oral chemo drug.
CO - Megan Cuseck - $2,000, CU majoring in psychology and become a pediatric psychologist. Graduated from Chatfield H.S. She had osteogenic sarcoma of her right femur. She has had 3 recurrences of her sarcoma which resulted in pulmonary metastasis, which means her cancer spread to her lungs. She has a prosthetic leg. She felt that the social workers didn't understand what she needed when she was going through her cancer treatment. She was in Color Guard and has ridden in the 2006 Courage Classic to raise funds for Children's Hospital.
CO - Brad Powers - $1,500, Franklin, W. Olin College of Engineering in Boston, MA. Graduated from Chaparral H.S. in Parker, CO. He was diagnosed with a type of brain tumor in 2003. The tumor affected his pituitary gland. Because of this he will have to be on a replacement medication for the rest of his life. He participated in several H.S. bands, is a member of the National Honor Society and tutors elementary students in math.
